Direct job search

How to Search Greenhouse,
Lever, and Ashby for Jobs

An applicant tracking system is not a secret job board. It is the software behind a company careers page. Search that layer directly and you can find live employer postings without waiting for a large board to copy them.

You can search hiring systems directly with a normal search engine. The useful trick is not the name of the software. It is telling Google which host to search, then narrowing the results by role, location, and date.

Where the trail starts

Search closer to the source

The same vacancy can appear in several places. Each handoff can add delay, duplicates, or stale copies.

  1. Source · verify hereEmployer publishesThe hiring team opens the role and owns the source posting.
  2. Direct trailATS hosts the pageGreenhouse, Lever, Ashby, or another system serves the public listing.
  3. Useful, but downstreamBoards copy itAggregators crawl, syndicate, or receive the role later—sometimes incompletely.
The ATS page is close to the source, but the employer careers page remains the final authority.

The searches to copy

Put the role in quotation marks when you want that exact phrase. Add remote, a country, or a time zone only when it matters. Google documents both quoted phrases and the site: operator; there is no space after the colon.

Greenhousesite:job-boards.greenhouse.io "project manager" remote

Good for searching public Greenhouse job boards across many employers.

Leversite:jobs.lever.co "data analyst" remote

Repeat on jobs.eu.lever.co when you want EU-hosted postings.

Ashbysite:jobs.ashbyhq.com "product manager" remote

Useful for employers whose public job boards are hosted by Ashby.

Workdaysite:myworkdayjobs.com "customer success" remote

Workday has many employer-specific sites, so add a company or country to reduce noise.

Make the query earn its keep: start broad, inspect ten results, then add one constraint. Try a country, a time-zone abbreviation, after:2026-08-01, or a minus term such as -senior. Too many filters at once can hide good listings.

What each ATS clue tells you

PlatformCommon public hostWhat to check
Greenhousejob-boards.greenhouse.ioEmployer name, office or remote label, and whether the application still opens.
Leverjobs.lever.coLocation, workplace type, commitment, and the employer account in the URL.
Ashbyjobs.ashbyhq.comLocation and employment wording inside the full description.
Workdaymyworkdayjobs.comThe employer-specific subdomain and whether the requisition is still active.

A direct-search routine that stays manageable

  1. Choose one role family. Search the title you want plus two genuine aliases. “Project manager,” “program manager,” and “implementation manager” will not return the same jobs.
  2. Run one host at a time. Separate Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, and Workday searches make gaps easier to spot.
  3. Add the place you can be hired. “Remote” describes work location, not legal eligibility. Add your country or region when worldwide hiring is not explicit.
  4. Open the employer source. Confirm that the role appears on the company careers page and that the apply form is still live.
  5. Record the date and source URL. A small spreadsheet beats rediscovering the same closed roles every week.
  6. Apply while the trail is fresh. A direct page does not guarantee lower competition, but it removes one avoidable delay.

Where this method breaks

Direct ATS search is a useful workaround, not a complete database. Search engines do not index every page immediately. Some employers host jobs on their own domain, block indexing, use regional ATS instances, or remove a role before the result disappears. A title can also be written in a way your exact phrase misses.

Use big boards to discover companies, ATS searches to widen the trail, and employer pages to verify. If checking those sources repeatedly becomes the job, that is the part Career Hound is designed to automate. The broader hidden job market guide explains where else postings escape the large boards.

How to verify a direct listing before you apply

Company connectionThe employer’s official careers page links to the same ATS account, or the account is clearly branded and consistent.
Live applicationThe source page still accepts applications. A search snippet alone is not evidence that the role remains open.
Hiring locationThe description names where candidates may live, not merely where the work happens.
Normal processNo fee, gift card, equipment payment, or sensitive financial information is requested before a legitimate hiring process.

Method sources: Google Search Help on quotes, exclusions, dates, and site:; Lever’s public postings documentation; and Ashby’s public job-posting documentation. Hosts and search behavior can change, so verify the live employer page.

Common questions

What is an applicant tracking system?

An applicant tracking system, or ATS, is software an employer uses to publish jobs, collect applications, and manage candidates. Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, and Workday are examples. The public job page is only one part of the system.

How do I search Greenhouse for jobs?

Use Google with the Greenhouse job-board domain, your role in quotation marks, and a location term. For example: site:job-boards.greenhouse.io "project manager" remote. Then open the result and verify the role on the employer’s careers page.

How do I search Lever for jobs?

Try site:jobs.lever.co followed by an exact role and location. Lever also has an EU-hosted domain, jobs.eu.lever.co, so search that separately when European employers matter to you.

How do I search Ashby for jobs?

Use site:jobs.ashbyhq.com plus the role and location terms you need. Ashby pages often expose the employer name and location clearly, but you should still read the full eligibility wording before applying.

Is searching an ATS better than searching Indeed?

It is better for finding some employer-hosted postings and tracing them to the source. It is not complete: search engines can miss or delay pages, and large boards still have useful discovery tools. The strongest search uses both, then applies at the employer source.

Why does an ATS result lead to a closed job?

Search indexes lag behind company systems. A result can remain after the employer has removed the role. Treat the live employer page as the final check; if the application page says the job is closed, it is closed.

Should I apply through the ATS page?

Yes, when the page is linked from the employer’s real careers site or sits on that employer’s verified ATS account. Do not submit personal information through a copied listing or a domain you cannot connect to the company.
