A check of the text, not the results

This scanner finds unpaired straight quotes and parentheses, site filters, minus terms and standalone quoted phrases. It quotes the original text for review.

It does not execute the query, count jobs or validate Google's full search syntax. Backslashes escape the next character in the local scanner; Google may interpret them differently.

Keep the source in view

Use the ATS search builder to start with separate searches for hiring systems, or follow the direct ATS search guide for a search routine.

Each search stays editable. Google receives the current text only when you choose its link. Google may interpret or ignore parts of a query; these suggestions do not guarantee broader results or support for a particular syntax.

How to fix a restrictive job search query

Use this job search query debugger when a Google search seems narrower than you intended. It inspects the text for patterns such as unpaired quotes, parentheses, site filters and excluded words. You can edit suggested alternatives before running a search yourself.

  1. Paste the query you want to inspect. If useful, enter the role or phrase you want to keep exact as you review broader wording.
  2. Read each finding beside the quoted text. Check whether an exact phrase, a minus term or a site restriction could be excluding wording you still want to see.
  3. Change one constraint and compare the resulting search in Google. Keep notes on whether the new results are useful before removing another restriction.

For example, excluding senior can also hide a job description that mentions working with a senior colleague. Removing that exclusion may add useful results and irrelevant ones. This tool does not run Boolean searches against job boards, count vacancies or validate every search operator. Use the ATS search builder for a fresh company-career-site query, then confirm each job on its employer source.
